What Changed With the Tesla Referral Link Itself in 2026
The reward changed twice this year. The link that carries it, as far as we can verify, didn't. Here's the distinction, and why it's worth keeping separate.
Our dated changelog post covers what changed in the Tesla referral program this year: the reward shifted to a three-month FSD (Supervised) trial, and Model S and Model X were removed in March 2026. This post asks a narrower, different question — did the ts.la link itself, the mechanism that carries that reward, change alongside it?
Two different things get bundled together
It's easy to conflate "the referral program changed" with "the link changed," but they're not the same layer. The reward is the marketing terms — what a buyer gets, which models qualify, what a referrer earns. The link is the plumbing — a ts.la/<code> redirect that tags a session with an owner's code. A program's terms can move while the plumbing carrying it stays exactly the same, the way a store can change its discount percentage without changing its point-of-sale system.
What we found for the reward side
The reward-side changes in 2026 are well documented and dated: the March 2026 removal of Model S and Model X from the North America program, alongside a Cybertruck discount adjustment, and the shift of the buyer reward to the three-month FSD (Supervised) trial. What we found — and didn't find — for the link side
We haven't found any reporting, or anything on Tesla's own Refer and Earn page, describing a change to the ts.la link or redirect mechanism itself in 2026 — no new domain, no change to the "open before you configure" sequencing rule, no reported change to how the click tags a session. As far as we can verify on July 13, 2026, the plumbing has stayed put while the reward attached to it moved twice.
Checked against Tesla's Refer and Earn page and the reporting covering the March 2026 program changes, re-confirmed July 13, 2026. We found documented changes to the reward and eligible-model list; we found none to the ts.la link mechanism itself.
Why the distinction is worth making
If you're trying to judge how "current" a referral page is, checking whether it still lists Model S or Model X, or still quotes a cash discount instead of the FSD trial, tells you whether its reward-side facts are stale. It tells you nothing about the link mechanism, because that part hasn't been the thing changing. A page can get the link instructions right while being badly out of date on the reward — which is exactly the pattern we see on some of the pages logged in our corrections table.
What would make us revise this page
Three things would prompt an update here, specifically: Tesla moving off the ts.la domain, a published change to how or when a session gets tagged, or reporting that the "link before you configure" sequencing no longer holds. None of those have surfaced as of this check. If one does, we'll date the correction here the same way we date every other change on this site.
The practical takeaway
If you're about to use a referral link today, the mechanism you're relying on — open it, then configure, then check the order summary — is the same one that's applied all year, even while the number waiting at the other end of it changed twice. Trust the sequence; re-verify the dollar figure against what's true today before you count on an exact amount.
