Do Tesla Referral Codes Still Work in 2026? What Actually Changed
Short answer: yes. Longer answer: the reward changed, and two models dropped out. Here is the dated record.
If you have seen a referral page promising "$500 to $1,000 off" or "free Supercharging," you are right to be suspicious — those describe an older version of the program. Referral codes do still work in 2026; the reward is just different, and the list of eligible models is shorter.
What still works
A referral code applied before ordering gives an eligible buyer three months of Full Self-Driving (Supervised) on Model 3, Model Y and qualifying Cybertruck (Premium AWD and Cyberbeast). Solar orders get US$400 off. Referrers still earn $250 in Tesla Credits per successful referral, capped at ten per year.
What changed — the dated record
- March 2026: Tesla removed Model S and Model X from the North America referral program. An S or X buyer no longer earns a referral benefit. The Cybertruck referral discount was also adjusted around this update.
- Earlier in 2026: the buyer reward shifted to the three-month FSD (Supervised) trial, replacing the older cash-discount style benefit that the stale pages still quote.
Changelog corroborated against primary reporting and Tesla's own page on July 13, 2026. Model S and Model X carry no referral benefit after March 2026.
How to tell a stale page at a glance
Two tells: it lists Model S or Model X as qualifying, or it quotes a dollar "discount" instead of the FSD trial. Both are signs the page has not been updated since the March 2026 change.
